What is it then that really attracts artists of different origins to have an exodus to Bali (especially to Ubud)? To those who made decisions to become a professional artist, Yogyakarta and Bandung serve as a training ground where they go to two best of art academies: ASRI (Academy of Fine Arts) and ITB (Institute of Technology of Bandung). This is not to say that the two cities did not produce renowned artists on their own rights. Surprised be not. Successful artists trained in one of the two academics, normally would go back to Bali to develop and perfect their artistic creativity. Classic examples of artists fall in this category are the two Balinese fine art maestros: Made Wianta and Nyoman Gunarsa. This pattern of returning to the origin is followed by Balinese artists of younger generation. As with Ubud, this artist village boasts many of the finest exhibition and galleries on the island: Neka Gallery, Agung Rai Museum of Arts, Rudana Museum, and Blanco Renaissance Museum.

Bali is not only producing academic artists but also becomes sources of artistic inspiration because of its indispensably environment (nature and tradition alike). These lists of Bali's blessings do not stop here. Bali's tradition and socio-religiousness besides playing economic role through its cultural and eco-tourism also represent the exoticism of Indonesia. Elements of tradition and religiousness are expressed and reinterpreted into arts in different forms.
